The meeting was requested by the Andalusian Ministry of Tourism which was interested in learning more about the NACAO project, due to the possible links between its thematic and the target of the INTERREG MED NaTour4CChange project, in which it is participating. The Andalusian Climate Change Office presented a wide overview of NACAO, its objectives, expected results and milestones already achieved.

The Secretary General for Tourism explained how NaTour4CChange is focuses on governing sustainable tourism in territories reconnecting tourism and nature to address the climate crisis with an ecosystem-based approach. Given that “nature-based solutions” are a fundamental part of the NACAO project to achieve the CO2 mitigation goal through offsetting initiatives, the Andalusian Ministry of Tourism considers it strategic to explore options for collaboration. Tourism is an important economic sector in many municipalities in the region, in addition to being considered a strategic area highly affected by climate change.

After considering diverse alternatives for cooperation, the participants agreed that the next step will be to decide the “pilot area” where a nature-base solution inspired by NACAO project, will be implemented in the framework of  NaTour4CChange. Areas in natural parks of Andalusia are to be explored!
