Following the first results of the holistic diagnosis, the project’s coordinator Politecnico Di Turino, Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine and APESA agreed to focus the project on a chosen sub territory as a case study :  the departments of Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques that together emcompass issues related to the tourist sector in line with the objectives of the SYSTOUR project. This territory is also best known by APESA in terms of challenges related to the sustainability criterion.

A series of interviews was conducted to present the project to local stakeholders of the tourism sector and gather their vision and expectations related to sustainable tourism. These actors were then gathered during a stakeholder meeting held on March 19th. The agenda of the meeting was divided in two parts :

  1. Presentation of the project

The objectives, methodology and calendar of the project were introduced. Some of the participants have taken part in the field visit in Lea Artibai and shared their feedbacks and experience of the visit with the rest of the groupe

  1. Collective workshops

Three workshops were conducted to work collaboratively on the construction of the agenda for our Region’s field visit : what is our vision of a sustainable

    1.   What is our vision of sustainable tourism ?

The participants analyzed a selection of the partners’ best practices in light of their own perspective of a sustainable tourism. This allowed for them to find out about the challenges faced by the region partners and the solutions they have implemented as a response, while also to highlight the practices that were considered as exemplary (or questionable) in light of their own vision of a sustainable tourism.

    1.   What is our interpretation of the project’s criterias ?

The project’s criterias ( transferability, degree of innovation, job creation, diversification of flow and environmental sustainability) can be understood in different ways according to local contexts. The participants were asked to discuss their own interpretation in order to have a shared understanding of these criterias.

    1.   What are our own best practices ?

Building on the two previous workshops, the participants were asked to think about the best practices that they would like to be presented during our region’s field visit. APESA and the Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine will treat the collected information and design several options of agenda that will be discussed with the local stakeholders and regional actors during a followup meeting in June.
