Renewable Szombathely - clean energy from its own power
About this good practice
Szombathely's initiative to generate renewable energy from a solar park on a former landfill addresses the challenge of sustainable energy production and land reuse. The project, realized through a bid in 2016, aims for municipal buildings to be powered by renewables by 2030. Within 1.5 years, three solar power plants were developed, producing about 1.5 MW across 3.5 hectares. The execution by E.ON was completed in late 2023, with network connection expected by early 2024. This development, part of the city's climate and energy strategy, aims to supply 12 institutions, covering 30% of the city's total energy needs.
