The sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) is tasked with transiting Ireland to a low carbon economy by persuading and enabling communities to reduce their their greenhouse gas emissions. One of the  key enablers of this transition has been the promotion by SEAI of the establishment of sustainable energy communities throughout many parts of Ireland.  These groups are community lead and SEAI provides both mentoring and financial incentives to help the communities establish themselves.
