INVALIS brings together specialists to assess the vulnerability of territories to IAS
On November 27, the Interreg Europe INVALIS project brought together several representatives of the regional and state administration and key agents to discuss the vulnerability of the territories to the introduction of IAS in Extremadura.
The General Directorate of Sustainability has organized the IV Meeting of the Interreg Europe INVALIS Project with stakeholder, online, in which 79 people from different sectors involved in the introduction and management of invasive species have participated, to debate how to assess the vulnerability of the territories against IAS. The meeting had 7 speakers, from different Extremadura entities (University of Extremadura, Guadiana Hydrographic Confederation, and Government de Extremadura), who spoke about the resilience of ecosystems to bioinvasions, the fragility of aquatic ecosystems, the vulnerability of some sectors to invasive species such as health, the impact on some productive sectors such as beekeeping or the potential of geographic information systems, for prevention and decision-making in the face of present and new bioinvasions.
One of the main conclusions of these conferences has been the importance of creating interdisciplinary groups within the administrations as the communication of key agents to establish priority scales when addressing biological invasions and as prevention systems for new invasions.
The INVALIS project, through these meetings with key agents, aims to establish the needs and demands of the main sectors involved in the introduction and dispersal of invasive species, as well as to improve the regulations that allow improving the management of these species.
