Pilot Model of Cooperation between Occupational Therapy Workshops with Social Economy Entities

About this good practice
General information
The idea for implementing this pilot model was born from the lack of support for participants of Occupational Therapy Workshops (OTW) when it comes to adjust their workshops types and abilities development to the needs on the open labour market. The purpose of the undertaken activities was to provide occupational therapy workshops with tools and forms of ergotherapy corresponding to the protected and open labor market. 3 phases of the implementation:
1) implementation of the ecological fire starter (in accordance with market needs), equipping the workshop with the necessary equipment and training for workshops participants Result: after 6 month training the first business agreement was signed (for production and distribution of the ecological fire starters)
2) Establishing cooperation with entrepreneurs from the open labor market in the field of gaskets and other rubber elements production- cooperated with company which ordered a part of their regular production in OTW, the goal was achieved and resulted with intensified cooperation and more orders
3) Cooperation of OTW with other social production companies (soaps production in ex.) and making pilot study tours to start or reinforce the cooperation
People with disabilities in order to be ready to take up employment require support in the area of vocational training, overcoming psychological and social barriers, and more importantly learning the sense of undertaking professional activity.

Resources needed
Equipment borrowed free of charge from the kindling company, after the franchise agreement the cost of purchasing the equipment about PLN20000.Making soaps equipment approx. 20 000PLNStaff service caring for disabled: carried out activities only during the hours and as part of the workshop's work.
Evidence of success
Measurable effects of implemented actions: creation of 12 occupational therapy positions at OTW corresponding to the positions at the Vocational Development and Training Centre and the open market companies; purchase of professional machines and devices; training participants and OTW employees; changing model of work in workshops with an emphasis on the process of vocational rehabilitation;developing habits convergent with the requirements of the labor market
Potential for learning or transfer
Activities have been linked through the various stages of work in one of Good Practice, which can be successfully transferred to other similarly profiled institutions and their organizational units. Many actors implementing similar activities but only the implementation of the comprehensive practice brings significant results. This practice is cross-linking the entities of Social Economy, and also in a practical way makes changes in their functioning. With the implementation of these measures current participant in Occupational Therapy Workshops can successfully - without long-term retraining take up employment at workplaces on Protected as well as Open Labour Market in terms of jobs created on the basis of already existing enterprises.
