About this good practice
Eleven renowned media arts institutions from all over Europe have joined forces and with the generous support of the EU’s Creative Europe Programme and created the European Media Art Platform (EMAP). The programme supports emerging European media artists with a grant to produce new work, and a two-month residency at a host institution with access to their facilities and in-house expertise. EMAP/EMARE offers an opportunity to work within these bounds, as defined by the individual artists, which enables the latter to develop their own projects within a new context and thereby give something back, in turn, to their host organization. This process of encouraging artists' projects and building stronger links between media organizations is enhanced by the rapid development of network technologies and also reflects the moves towards integration taking place throughout Europe. The various new technologies now coming to the fore require a relatively high degree of know-how and, although each individual organization has its own unique set-up, facilities and staff, opportunities for the exchange of information and skills give a further boost to the programme. Sharing insights, facilities and knowledge. The European Media Art Platform will offer EMARE (European Media Artist in Residence Exchange) residencies for artists working in the fields of digital media – in internet and computer-based arts, in sound or video art, in media-based performance, as well as in robotics or bio-art.

Potential for learning or transfer
EMAP - European Media Art Platform gives an opportunity to emerging artists to work with prominent European art organizations that boost the selected projects by offering a curatorial, production, organizational support. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the artistic projects, the platform allows the artists to choose the organization with which they would like to work, while the organizations potentiate access to their cross-sectorial networks of external associates and experts.
The platform aims to benefit from different infrastructures, cultural platforms and markets which allows an execution of individually structured support for each artistic project. The project offers a model for cross-sectorial art production which can be adapted to specific needs of different regions. With the support of Creative Europe funds from the European Union, it is now being transformed into the biggest international residency platform for emerging media artists.
