Smart Specialisation approach is introducing changes in the policy process, requiring governance and skills for policy making. A recent survey, carried out by the Joint Research Centre, showcased the challenging and demanding aspect of policy intelligence, skills and capabilities for public authorities as well as stakeholders. There is a need for integrating new competences in different S3 process dimensions.

Therefore, the S3 Platform is organising a workshop on 21 May 2019 to discuss what skills and institutional framework are needed for effective public action. Thosten Kohlisch, project manager at the Policy Learning Platform is taking part in the Peer eXchange and Learning (PXL) workshop. During the day he will participate by sharing his extensive methodological knowledge and experience on conducting peer reviews.
The focus during this workshop will be on the skills of S3 policy makers and to explore main challenges associated to development of capabilities for the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluating of Smart Specialisation Strategies.
