A webinar on the social integration of migrants was held yesterday, i.e. 15.05.2025. The SIRM project partner from Ireland was invited to participate in the meeting and presented a good practice identified in the SIRM project.

The main topic covered was the migration situation of the European Union. The main reasons for the existing situation, as identified by the International Centre for Migration Development, were:

- The ongoing war in Ukraine

- The increasing number of illegal arrivals and asylum applications from other regions of the world

Available data from January 2023 indicates that 6.1% of the EU population is not EU citizens (approximately 27.3 million people)!

The aim of the webinar was to explore community integration through a welfare lens, addressing key challenges migrants face, such as language and cultural barriers, limited access to education, access to housing, child support services and how to help migrants integrate into society.

It also addressed the issue of sharing best practices in integration at the local level - led by cities and municipalities.
