About this good practice
EKO d.o.o., based in Ormož, Slovenia, focuses on e-waste processing with an emphasis on reuse and recycling, utilizing advanced tools such as the WEEEWaste Circular Practices Evaluation Tool (WCPET). This tool plays a crucial role in optimizing EKO’s circular practices by providing a detailed assessment of each stage in the e-waste lifecycle, from collection to final product marketing. The WCPET tool helps EKO track resource recovery rates, identify inefficiencies, and ensure that the highest possible percentage of materials are reintegrated into production.
The company operates as an employment center, integrating vulnerable groups into its processes, fostering social inclusion. EKO collects e-waste from various sources, after which it is sorted and disassembled into individual components. Functional parts are refurbished and prepared for resale, extending their lifecycle. Non-functional materials are recycled according to the latest standards and returned to production chains.
EKO markets products containing recycled components as environmentally friendly solutions. Educational programs and awareness campaigns are also a vital part of their activities, increasing public understanding of proper e-waste management.
