About this good practice
The CMC has a set of infrastructures and equipment, including laboratories, experimental areas, a marine fish nursey and a floating fish farm (currently dismantled) which allows the research and technical development and subsequently the application of the results of these works in pilot projects – to test its validity on a commercial state.
The Center promotes guided tours and has a collaboration programs with schools to disseminate aspects of science and technology in animal production.
The CMC research projects have largely served to support the funding of its activity to date. Work has focused particularly on the evaluation of new local species for aquaculture, including nutrition studies and formulation of novel foods in collaboration with the national feed industry. The excellence of the Center’s work has been translated into several international awards in continuous effort of innovation and training to better support the aquaculture industry and contribute to the development of the regional economy.
CMC is also a partner of OOM (Oceanic Observatory of Madeira) in order to develop research on marine projects.
