The 19th International Marathon Alexander The Great is here!

The International Marathon Alexander the Great is one of Greece’s most prestigious running events, drawing participants from around the world, and is part of the DEPART Interreg Europe Project Good Practices. The first marathon was held on the 16th of April in 2006, as a result of a vision shared by many representatives of athletic and cultural institutions across Greece.

Through the International Marathon Alexander the Great and its parallel events, the main goal is to highlight a historic route globally and the importance of Thessaloniki and Macedonia as a center of history, culture, and sports. The Marathon connects the past with the present, covering 42 km of history and Hellenism spanning over 2,500 years.

In addition, the marathon offers citizens the opportunity to run or walk in various road races, promoting participation, physical activity, and a healthy lifestyle, ultimately enhancing their quality of life.
