Call for peers-Blue-green infrastructure for business parks

In the context of an upcoming interregional peer review for the benefit of the intermunicipal organisation Interwaas (Belgium) on blue-green infrastructure for business parks. The peer review is scheduled for 17-18 September 2025, in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium.
Call for peers: share your expertise on blue-green infrastructure for business parks
Our current peer review supports Interwaas, an intermunicipal organisation representing seven municipalities in East Flanders, Belgium. Among its core responsibilities is the development and management of business parks across the region.
Like many others in Flanders, most of these business parks were developed in the 1980s and are characterised by extensive paving and minimal blue-green infrastructure. As a result, they are increasingly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, such as:
-
Flooding during periods of heavy rainfall
-
Heat stress during prolonged warm spells
In response, Interwaas is committed to reversing the trend of excessive soil sealing. Their goal is to make existing business parks more liveable, climate-resilient, and aligned with new regional regulations introduced by the Flemish Government on water infiltration and buffering for permit procedures.
