About this good practice

The current city model needs connectivity between the different environments (urban and nature) of the city of Alcira. The main intention is to change the model of the city towards a more ecological, cultural and green vision.
The EU launched the Green Infrastructure concept, which deals with a network of natural and seminatural spaces and other environmental elements designed and managed to provide ecosystem services to citizens.
The Europe 2020 strategy introduces a series of proposals and measures such as the use of public procurement to promote economic development with regard to the use of natural resources through responsible production and consumption policies.
Public procurement targets include the introduction of new approaches to
public procurement as the concept of circular procurement that redesign procurement processes to close the material cycle.
The carbon footprint, offsetting and absorption projects of Co2 are established by the RD 163/2014 of 14 March.
the local councils that can quantify their carbon footprint in order to launch initiatives that try to reduce it progressively.
The carbon footprint, offsetting and absorption projects of Co2 are established by the RD 163/2014 of 14 March.

One of the most important activities are the purchasing of different picnic tables made 100% of recycled plastic. These tables are integrated in natural routes.

Resources needed

The budget for the phase II landscape improvement of the Green Ring of iPra. Purchase of sustainable Urban Furniture is 38,580.00€ + VAT

Evidence of success

Reduction of visual impact of urban furniture
Reuse of material: 100% recycled plastic
Introduction of new procurement and processes in a circular economy
Promote sustainable environmental markets-products (private investment in recycled furniture).
Encourage the use of green standards in public and private procurement in the local council of Alzira
A Decalogue of criteria for companies was published
Encouraging innovation in production processes

Potential for learning or transfer

The use of ecological and environmental criteria for public tenders, in our case for the purchase of urban furniture. It is a practice that can be exported to the different regions of the European Union.
Through the GUF TOOL Tool These ecological criteria can be used by both the public and the private sector, through the different possible options, the objective to achieve is that all the parties involved in the tender process of a public work as it is our case, are conscious with the use of ecological criteria for the choice of materials, processes and actions.
With a greener view when these tenders are made, the carbon footprint can be reduced because it has been taken into account when making all kinds of bids that are being carried out in the most ecological way possible and always respecting the concept of circular economy.
In this way, the regions can be encouraged to use their own and local resources, thereby promoting the better economic, social and environmental development
