This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The Life M3P platform is based on the strong characterization of industrial waste and the technologies and processes necessary for their treatment in order to be reused as by-products or secondary raw materials. The information, collected and appropriately catalogued in a dedicated database, will allow users to identify a “match” between request and offer of materials, also using intelligent analysis techniques, thus providing a powerful promotional tool for industrial symbiosis.
The M3P Platform can be used (free access) by any company interested in supplying waste and by-products or looking for secondary raw materials.
M3P Platform is a multi-level structure: the first one is access free and open to all economic operators. By this level, a single operator can: register himself, register the company related to him, offer one or more waste, search for waste offered by other users, ask for a match. Other levels, accessible for a fee, allow a user to ask for technical services to prosecute the identified match – for instance: further tests, technical feasibility, etc. – in case he has not resources to carry out it. In this case, any match is prosecuted under a NDA among companies and M3P operators (individual or companies that signed a collaboration agreement with Centrocot).
M3P Platform guarantees data confidentiality by a specific application: the matching “waste- offering company” is possible only upon company approval following a request from a user (blind request).

Resources needed
The M3P Platform has been developed within the Life M3P project under Life 2015 Programme funds: ID LIFE15-ENV_IT_000697 “Material Match Making Platform for promoting the use of industrial waste in local networks”, amount 1,5 mln €, 60% co-funded by EU.
Evidence of success
The M3P Platform is used by more than 350 companies in 8 EU states/regions.
Several agreements with other organizations have been signed to exploit M3P Platform in other regions/sectors.
Life M3P project is ended 31/12/2019, but Centrocot and Life partners, agreed to continue to invest into the M3P Platform, identifying several innovative services related to industrial symbiosis that can be provided to industry.

Potential for learning or transfer
M3P Platform is based on software engine “Open 2.0”, developed by Regione Lombardia with ROP 2007-2013 funds and made available for economic operators, and is managed by Centrocot, a technical research center, lead beneficiary and coordinator of the Life project, identified by Regione Lombardia as stakeholder (textile and fashion sector) inside the Interreg CIRCE project.
Thanks to Open 2.0 features, such as multi-language translation or project management, the M3P Platform can be easily made available in other regions and used to implement industrial symbiosis initiatives.
BY searching features, technicians can learn about material performance and characteristics, new application fields and processes, and innovate inside SMEs.
