This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The project includes collecting and recycling EPS from
different actors of the economy and polystyrene concrete
material that remains at construction works and would
otherwise be disposed as waste throughout Hungary. The
recycling process takes place at the factory of WYW BLOCK Ltd. near Röszke, located in Csongrad County, South-Eastern Hungary.
WYW BLOCK Ltd. produces polystyrene concrete
construction products (PCCPs) (in part using clean recycled
insulating EPS collected from construction works, or
packaging EPS from electrical appliances retailers for
instance). PCCPs are bought by contractor/end user to
build/insulate housing units or other types of buildings. Excess, unused/cut PCCPs remain after construction/insulation project is finished. Excess PCCPs are transported back to WYW BLOCK Ltd. for recycling purposes instead of disposing of it as waste and increasing landfill load. New PCCPs are produced from said excess material.

Resources needed
Any retailer who produces clean EPS waste can hand it over to
WYW BLOCK Ltd. or its contracted partner for recycling
purposes.

Evidence of success
EPS and polystyrene concrete recycling results in the reduction of waste landfilling.
Recycling makes the production cheaper and reduces required energy use since the recycling process requires less energy than process of EPS pre-expansion which is the alternative way of providing EPS raw material for polystyrene concrete production.

Potential for learning or transfer
The establishment of a national or international network of
EPS and polystyrene concrete waste collection and processing facilities would greatly optimize the recycling process and it would provide new work and business opportunities.
