About this good practice
The initiative consists of promoting the bioeconomy in various regions of Europe, informing and encouraging private and public companies to include the bioeconomy in their roadmap.
Several lines of work have emerged from this platform to stimulate different aspects of the Bioeconomy such as;
• Recognition of the Circular Bioeconomy as a strategic project for the country, with a growing presence of linked agents.
• Diversification and attraction of new business models in high impact sectors.
• Research projects in high TRLs and connection of technology centres and universities with companies.
• Society and business fabric informed and sensitised.
• Platform in favour of the Circular Bioeconomy in the Basque Country underway, bringing together the main actors and promoting projects.
• Generation of bio-materials and bio-chemicals based on forest by-products.
• Promotion of entrepreneurship related to the Circular Bioeconomy.
• Promotion of inter-cluster connections.
Resources needed
The Basque Government has earmarked 600,000 euros, 300,000 per year, to promote the creation of pilot innovation projects in the field of forest bioeconomy. 6 projects have been approved. In 2020, this line of aid, a further 1,000,000 euros will be invested.
Evidence of success
10 start-ups with 10 real projects. The companies selected for the constitution come from very diverse sectors: the automotive, energy, construction, textile and cosmetics, among others. The bioeconomy projects that guarantee the initial presence of these companies are mainly based on the wood resource, although there are cases of products based on other types of resources: BIOTERMIAK, CIKAUTXO, EGOIN, GLOBAL EFFICIENCY ARANGUREN– GLEFARAN, LANA, MAIER, MARIA DUOL, PAPRESA,SKFK, SMURFIT KAPPA.

The idea is to promote bieconomy in several regions around Europe, informing and en hancing to private and public companies to include the Bioceconomy into thier roadmap.
