Urban Integration Lab for Climate Adaptation

On 22 May 2025, we had the pleasure of taking part in a stakeholder workshop in Mińsk Mazowiecki, in the Mazovia region, organised within the framework of the IntegrateNbS project coordinated by the SGGW team. The meeting marked an important step in launching the Urban Integration Lab for Climate Adaptation, a space for collaboration between residents, entrepreneurs, architects, and local government representatives.
The session highlighted how essential it is to bring together a wide range of stakeholders when designing effective and inclusive climate adaptation strategies. Together, we identified key environmental challenges in the city and explored nature-based solutions (NbS) suited to mid-sized urban areas.
Using the “Neighborhood with Climate” board game, participants co-created ideas for improving the conditions around the central square of Mińsk. The discussions focused on green infrastructure like
- sponge parks,
- green roofs,
- climbing plants and trellises,
- rain gardens,
- increasing biodiversity with pocket forests.
Yesterday, participants went a step further by designing their own NbS concepts directly on a city map, proposing site-specific interventions tailored to local needs.
