New stakeholder meeting in Latvia on sustainable logistics

Vidzeme Planning Region and Riga Technical University jointly organise a new Regional Stakeholder Group meeting within SPOTLOG.
Taking place on 23 May in Riga, the event will focus on green and socially responsible transport and logistics solutions, bringing together local experts, researchers, and decision-makers to explore how policy and practice can support the transition to low-emission transport systems, with a particular focus on last-mile delivery in urban areas.
The meeting will feature several expert presentations:
• Zane Pīpkalēja, SPOTLOG project expert from Vidzeme Planning Region, will present selected good practices from across Europe and outline key policy challenges for sustainable logistics at the regional level in Latvia.
• Dr. oec. Valērijs Skribans, senior expert of the Latvian Council of Science, will examine the main challenges associated with implementing EU mobility policy in Latvia and adapting foreign experience to national conditions.
• Ph.D. Aleksandrs Kotļars and Assoc. Prof. Māris Jurušs from Riga Technical University will share recommendations developed under the national research project TRANS4ECO, which explores practical models for sustainable last-mile delivery and fiscal aspects of green transport transition.
The event supports policy learning and contributes to the improvement of regional planning documents related to sustainable mobility and urban logistics in Latvia. Insights both from SPOTLOG and national research will help identifying barriers and opportunities in the current policy landscape and inform potential measures for policy improvement.
The initiative illustrates how knowledge exchange and good practice transfer – core objectives of the SPOTLOG – can support practical solutions and policy adjustments at the regional level. By strengthening stakeholder capacity and fostering inter-sectoral dialogue, the event contributes to the broader goals of the European Green Deal and the Urban Mobility Framework.
