Kullaberg Nature Reserve is in Höganäs municipality, in the northwest corner of Scania County in Sweden. The peninsula is surrounded by the mixed salt waters of Skagerrak and the brackish waters of the Baltic Sea, enabling favourable conditions for the habitat of a unique marine and terrestrial flora and fauna. Kullaberg Nature Reserve proudly holds the distinction of being the first protected area in Sweden to receive the Charter of Sustainable Tourism certification by the EUROPARC Federation since 2017. Through various programs and certifications, EUROPARC seeks to encourage and support the efforts made by nature reserves to become sustainable tourism destinations. The purpose is for all parties to work together from a long-term perspective to support the protection of the region’s natural and cultural heritage, ensuring high-quality visitor experience and well-being.
During this Interregional Learning Workshop, the delegation will experience different aspects of sustainable destination management, learn how the County Administrative Board of Scania and the Höganäs municipality work to improve accessibility, health, well-being and sustainability in protected areas and hear how local companies integrate sustainability into their work, how they communicate their stories to their customers, and the role that heritage interpretation plays. To organise this study trip, Kullaberg Nature Reserve joined forces with Kullaresor, a local company specialising in organising local tours. Keen to discover how collaboration between diverse stakeholders, including local businesses, fosters a balance between tourism and conservation efforts!
