About this good practice
I3P was born in 1999 and its goal is generating new knowledge intensive entrepreneurship. It benefits from the close relationship with Politecnico and its ability to catalyze, stimulate and support entrepreneurial initiatives. The activity of I3P is part of the global strategies of the Piedmont area aiming at supporting research, technological innovation and new entrepreneurship. It addresses to students, researchers, lecturers, entrepreneurs and companies willing to create a spin-off.
I3P offers entrepreneurs a complete path, starting from the definition of the business model and the business plan, to the tutoring of the company during its first years. I3P proposes itself as a partner of the entrepreneurial team, with the aim of maximizing the growth of the company through services provided both directly and through its partners. Each new
company is assigned to a specialized tutor, who provides advice, training and contacts with network.
The incubator has contributed to the growth of a regional ecosystem to support high-tech start-ups, composed by highly specialized professionals, venture capitalists, banks, industrial partners, shareholders and stakeholders. In 2011 I3P has launched TreataBit, a preincubation program specifically designed to support the rapid growth of digital projects.
Every year, I3P is one of the organizers (with University of Turin, University of East Piedmont and Aosta Valle Region) of Start Cup Piemonte Valle d’Aosta, a business plan competition

Potential for learning or transfer
The key success factors for a transfer are related to the capacity of the incubator of: impact on the ecosystem, attractiveness of the incubator and value for companies. Furthermore, the constant search for growth and improvement of services is fundamental; an example is
TreataBit, incubation path designed for digital projects aimed at the consumer market, launched by I3P in 2011.
The incubator’s experience has been successfully shared in Italy, with:
- Basilicata Region, where 2017 was created T3 Innovation, the regional
technology transfer structure, born from the implementation of the S3 under the 2014/2020 Basilicata ESFR Program. T3 is composed of a group of companies with consolidated expertise in the national and international scene.
- Calabria Region, where 2018 the Start Cup Calabria was organized, a
competition of innovative business ideas. The better ideas collected were
selected to participate in a training and consulting week, with the support of I3P
