Funds for tourism SMES to improve the sustainability and digitalization of accommodation facilities

About this good practice
The objective of the initiative implemented by Marche Region is to encourage the renovation, extraordinary maintenance, restoration and conservative rehabilitation of accommodation facilities, located in the regional territory and already operational for tourism purposes. Provided that such investments are aimed at improving the level of environmental sustainability, accessibility, technological innovation of the tourism sector in the region.
The Marche Region supports, as a priority, the restoration of the following properties:
• Facilities promoting the cultural resources of the surrounding area;
• Facilities promoting “Slow” and “eco-sustainable” tourism;
• Facilities specialized in hosting work meetings through the provision of conference rooms and advanced digital services.
The initiative is part of a set of policies aimed at fostering the competitiveness of the existing receptive structures in the region and their capacity to better respond to the current trends of the touristic sector. Taking into account that the tourism industry, characterised by its dynamic nature, has witnessed significant transformations in recent years, with a growing demand for eco-friendly and technologically advanced facilities and services.
Resources needed
Marche Region invested funds from European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020, for a total amount of approximately 43 million euros.
Evidence of success
The initiative implemented by Marche Region to foster the twin transition of tourism operators at regional level resulted in N.119 projects funded for the redevelopment of real estates for a total budget of 18,840,123.27 EUR.
Potential for learning or transfer
The strategy for fostering the “twin transition” of tourism operators promoted by Marche Region has an high transferability potential as it has been entirely funded by European funds available to all regions within the European Union.
Ad hoc call for proposals providing financial incentives for the upgrading/digitization of tourism services and infrastructures are available for consultation.
