Entrepreneur in class

About this good practice
Vlajo is a public/private supported entity stimulating entrepreneurial education from kindergarten to university. One of their initiatives is called “Entrepreneur in class”. Entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs come to talk about their experiences and knowledge during a two hour class, which is completely free. To do this, the entrepreneur fills in
registration form. Then the teacher chooses which entrepreneur comes to talk in class. Vlajo focuses on eight domains from which schools can choose an entrepreneur: economics & organization, agri- & horticulture, people & society, food & catering industry, languages & culture, sports and STEM. The entrepreneurs talk about entrepreneurship, about entrepreneurial skills and responsibilities. This way the students get a more realistic and positive image on what it means to be an entrepreneur or an intrapreneur. The theory they get in class is explained by someone who already does the job, which means they get a better understanding of it. They also learn a lot about themselves and about their capabilities, which allows them to make better decisions later in life. We see that students, teachers and entrepreneurs find these classes an enrichment to their daily activities.
Resources needed
1 fte and according staff costs
Evidence of success
In the academic year 2022 – 2023 alone, this initiative reached 30.500 students and the numbers are significantly rising.
Potential for learning or transfer
This good practice is easily transferable to other regions, since there is practically no need for resources. Any umbrella organisation in education could play the role of Vlajo, by uniting the schools with the entrepreneurs. This could be a ministry of education or another governmental body. Even education networks, teachers networks or private bodies could organise this. On the other hand it is not only interesting to create a network of schools and teachers, but also of entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs.
