About this good practice
Coordinating the activities of the Central German IT sector and making them visible - this is the core concern of the IT Mitteldeutschland e. V. cluster. The sector network represents the interests of the IT industry in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. Small and large, established and newly founded companies are involved in the association, which was founded in 2009. The Cluster IT Mitteldeutschland is committed to ensuring that cooperations can be established across companies and industries and that favourable framework conditions are created for the continued positive development of the Central German IT sector. These include, for example, numerous measures to attract and retain urgently needed specialists in the regional IT industry.
The Cluster IT Mitteldeutschland is financed exclusively by membership fees. The association has one managing director and two part-time employees.
Evidence of success
Since its foundation, the number of members has increased from seven to approximately 50. The visibility of the Central German IT sector towards politics and the public has noticeably increased. Networking with regional players from business, science and politics is also growing increasingly. Several cross-company cooperation and projects have already emerged within the cluster.
Potential for learning or transfer
With its structure and offerings, the IT Central Germany cluster is very well suited as a platform for establishing contacts and initiating cross-company and cross-thematic projects. By means of distinctive communication structures, the association contributes to significantly increasing the internal and external perception of a transnational business location such as Central Germany and the companies located there.
