About the project
NATUREM project aims to take a step forward in soil policies, by favouring prioritization of soil restoration using sustainable remediation solutions, according to the EU Soil Strategy for 2030.
Bio- and phytoremediation, both Natural Based Solutions (consisting in soil and water decontamination using bacteria and plants) have become attractive alternatives to conventional methods for the remediation of soil and groundwater polluted by obsolete pesticides (HCH and other POPs). However, due to the need for further studies together with the longer times required for pollutant elimination in comparison with the conventional non-sustainable methods, such as soil excavation and thermal destruction, their application is not widespread. NATUREM will test pilot actions to anaylise how biorremediation can be effectively incorporated in public policies. Pilot actions will be jointly implemented in different region. Partners will share the knowledge and experience gained with the whole consortia.
