TERRA+ platform, Product Digital Profile

About this good practice
The Terra+ platform is owned and developed by the TERRA+, a company based in Western Greece, with a focus on advancing the digital transformation of the agrifood sector. The platform is a cutting-edge digital solution designed to address the increasing demand for transparency and traceability in the agrifood supply chain. Utilizing blockchain technology, it ensures the secure, tamper-proof recording of each product’s lifecycle, from farm to fork. By providing immutable digital profiles for agricultural products, Terra+ guarantees that every stage of the supply chain is recorded, creating transparency and trust for both producers and consumers. The platform integrates with IoT devices to capture environmental data, while smart contracts automate transactions and processes, streamlining the flow of information. A QR code system is included, allowing consumers to instantly access detailed product data, thus offering transparency at the point of purchase. Terra+ effectively solves key challenges in the agrifood sector related to food safety, quality assurance, and traceability, enhancing consumer confidence and ensuring that products meet strict quality standards. It is particularly beneficial for regions with strong agricultural sectors and high consumer demand for food authenticity and safety, like Greece, and can be extended to other countries, where agrifood traceability and consumer trust are crucial for the success of the industry.
Resources needed
The platform has been funded so far with 45,000 euros in total through the EIT Digital Venture Incubation Program 2022 and the INTECMED ENI CBC Med project. The platform's continued development, expansion, support and maintenance are projected to cost more than 50,000 euros for the period 2025-2027.
Evidence of success
The platform was launched in August 2022, as Terraplus start-up was one of the ten final stage winners of EIT Digital Venture Program 2022, bringing the company among the 6 success stories of the EIT Digital Venture Program up to 2023. Terra+ won also the 2nd prize in the INTECMED ENI CBC Med incubator. Currently, Terra+ solution is being integrated into three pilot-fields with grape and olive trees, while knowledge has so far been transferred to a company based in Bulgaria.
Potential for learning or transfer
The TERRA+ platform has significant potential for transfer to other regions and sectors that require secure and transparent supply chain management. Countries with established agrifood industries, such as Italy, France, and the United States, could benefit from implementing TERRA+ platform to improve food traceability and consumer confidence in product quality. The combination of blockchain technology for secure data verification and IoT devices for real-time product monitoring can be adapted to industries that need high levels of product authenticity and transparency. Additionally, the use of digital profiles and QR codes to ensure traceability and trust could be applied to any sector where data security and/or consumer confidence are essential, e.g., food and beverage sector, and for products with added value, such as organic products or superfoods.
