About this good practice
The objective of Ele.C.Tra project (Electric City Transport) is the promotion of a new urban mobility model with common characteristics among the partner cities so that it can be easily implemented in other cities and regions. The project includes 3 pilot actions with 90 electric scooters and full model set up (signs, parking system, users services, etc). Additionally, one of the main outputs of the project was the creation of a GIS web platform which provides data for all pilot and non pilot cities of the project. Through this platform the end-users will have access to the facility map and its services (pickup and delivery points of e scooters, parkings, and recharge stations). Within the project an e-vehicle exhibition took place in the municipality of Rafina in order to introduce to the citizens and public/private bodies and institutions the electric vehicles, scooters and bicycles and promote the idea of electromobility in Greece. The participants could also drive these type of vehicles in order to have a real experience and get familiar with the new technology which will influence the urban and touristic transportation in the future.
Expert opinion
Organising exhibitions of zero emission vehicles is an excellent way to facilitate their uptake, in line with the goals of the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. Similar initiatives should be replicated especially in regions where the deployment of electromobility is still rather limited in spite of the recent acceleration by the industry in launching new electric models. In those contexts, citizens may particularly benefit from having the chance to test electric vehicles and receive detailed information about their advantages over internal combustion engine vehicles. Like electric cars and vans, e-scooters represent an essential component for the decarbonization of road transport: policymakers should not hesitate to support their wider use to reduce CO2 and air pollutant emissions from this sector with the view to better protect public health and the environment.
