Project Migrants in Business

About this good practice
The main objective of the MIGRANTS IN BUSINESS (MIB) project is to offer innovative and high-quality training for migrants in the subject of business support and entrepreneurship. There main goal was to prepare a training that will be tested by business consultants, working with migrants and will later on be available for both: business consultants and migrants. Business incubator. Business Incubator Perspektiva, Postojna (organizational unit of Zavod Znanje Postojna– public institution, founded by Municipality of Postojna), together with partners from Spain and Italy, has been preparing an international training program, based on which migrants will be offered adequate support in developing their companies as an alternative source of employment in a foreign country. During the entrepreneurship program, good practices in this field were highlighted, as well as key skills that are useful to migrants when they are faced with opening a business in a foreign environment. On December 2023 the partnership of MIB project has finished the exploration of good practices of migrants’ economic inclusion and has proceeded to developing Migrants in Business Guidelines, which was completed in February 2024. Based on these one of three partners have already executed a pilot project, testing presumptions of the project. While in Spain and Malaga workshops have been developed, in Slovenia migrants have been addressed individually.
Resources needed
The project was co-founded by European Commission ERASMUS+ program, project Migrants in business (MIB). Estimated budget 20.500,00 Eur (includes staff costs and organizational costs for travel, meetings etc.)
Evidence of success
3 pilot s took place in 3 countries (1 in each of the countries) 9 participants (business consultants) attended the pilots (3 in each pilot). 15 participants (migrants), 5 in each country were involved in pilots and are included in the program. This activity was concluded in January 2024, evaluation was done in February 2024. Decision-makers have been addressed to change the Municipality's strategy. One main document “SMALL STEPS TO BIG PATHS” Training Guidelines has been issued.
Potential for learning or transfer
While initially the MIB partnership strived to create MIB Training Program directed to migrants and their business consultants, the partnership has changed this, in order to adapt to findings of good practices. It was established that training with actual migrants can be done by presentation of usual business knowledge, using already established tools (such as for example the BIC4SME tools). However, more needs to be done in terms of addressing the entire situation of each individual foreign, entering the region as well as in terms of strategic development of the “context” provided for this purpose by the regional decision-making stakeholders (such as municipalities, business support organizations etc.). Finding of this sort are presented in the MIB Training Guidelines, along with considerations to be done when transferring these realizations in one’s own regional setting. The guidelines is already available on the website.
