Nordpark Pulheim - An urban invitation into the landscape

About this good practice
The public is making wide use of the park, it is a playground for children and a meeting point for groups, e.g. those using the infrastructure for outdoor gyms etc.
The city ensures that the best mix between private use and public needs will be guaranteed and cares for maintenance and repairs.
Update: Ground for extension of Nordpark acquired by city of Pulheim and implementation likely to start in autumn 2020.
Expert opinion
The practice is a good example of transforming an area between the city and adjacent farmlands into a park that is an element of a wider green network. What could be interesting for other public authorities is the design that combines urban and rural elements and offers a wide variety of structures and use forms. The establishment of an ongoing planning process with the involvement of citizens is another essential element of the park that could be inspirational for the development of similar green public areas. The initiative supported by ERDF, federal and state ministries and the city of Pulheim brought benefits to nature and people and received an award for landscape architecture. The novel idea, approach, results and lessons can therefore serve as a model.
