About this good practice
The city of Craiova, like all European cities, is facing more and more problems related to transport. The migration of city dwellers to the suburbs leads to the emergence of residential patterns that involve moving over long distances. The continuous development of the city of Craiova has determined an accelerated development of the neighboring administrative-territorial units, which is why the need for citizens to travel and the increase in urban mobility have become strategic development objectives of local public administrations. The concentration of some economic activities and implicitly jobs around the city of Craiova led to the development of adjacent areas based on the bi-directional migration of their inhabitants.
Thus, the Municipality of Craiova signed a Partnership Agreement with Ișalnița Commune in order to implement the investment in non-polluting buses that will contribute to increasing the share of trips using local public transport with modern electric vehicles at the expense of private cars. Also makes the use of cars a less attractive option from an economic and travel time point of view, compared to the use of public transport, thus creating the conditions for reducing CO2 equivalent emissions from transport. The main beneficiaries of the practice are the citizens from Craiova and Isalnita.
