LIVING ROOM AND INFORMATION POINT FOR YOUNG CREATIVES

About this good practice
"DAY ROOM AND INFORMATION POINT FOR YOUNG CREATIVES", an initiative that addresses the inclusion of vulnerable groups of young people in the local, regional and international environment, offers a safe space where young people can meet and get help. Above all, the redevelopment of the space has helped to revitalise the city centre and the building as a whole. The space has also contributed to the active participation of young people in the preparation of international youth projects, providing them with a space and a location that gives them the opportunity to prepare international activities. As part of the project, the members have also organised various thematic workshops in the Youth Centre, which have been running throughout the duration of the project. The thematic workshops have included (learning about Erasmus+, European Solidarity Unit, etc.), cooking workshops, movie nights, reading sessions, creative workshops, intergenerational gatherings, etc. This is the first youth centre to promote open youth work and provide a safe space for socialising, learning support, workshops and activities, project development and implementation, and a place where young people can create. The Youth Centre also hosts two local youth music groups, young people creating podcast and video content, workshops for children on mindfulness and therapeutic counselling for young people.
Resources needed
The Living Room and Information Point for young people was set up as part of the European Solidarity Cell programme, a programme that provides a single entry point for solidarity activities. It opens up more and better opportunities covering a wide range of areas.
Evidence of success
The youth centre "Living room and information point for young creatives" is become a place where young people meet, exchange experiences and prepare activities for the benefit of the local community. They strive for networking, cooperation and joint promotion of open youth work. The youth centre that was set up as part of the project, has opened up many new collaborations, opportunities and has connected very well with the local environment where the project and the activities have been implemented.
Potential for learning or transfer
Their vision is linked to the slogan "A small circle of big people". Their work promotes and develops open youth work in Slovenia, and especially in Murska Sobota. Their vision is to involve young people to become an active part of the local, regional, national and international community. Above all, they strive to give young people with fewer opportunities the chance to participate in different fields and to feel included in society. In particular, they aim for their members to become leaders in the development of open youth work, as this form of youth work is largely unrecognised and neglected in Slovenia.
Their biggest result is the creation of a new youth centre in the centre of Murska Sobota, which is the first youth centre of its kind in Pomurje to promote and operate on the principle of open youth work. What is also interesting is that it has been created entirely through the project and with the help of local youth.
