Language and professional training by AFP

About this good practice
For many years, the Saluzzo area has been an area crossed by a notable flow of seasonal workers engaged in the agricultural sector who are largely migrants.
Numerous associations have over time implemented interventions in favor of migrant people with seasonal work in fruit picking, offering support, welcome and integration from a system perspective.
The Cooperative "Alpi del Mare" operates in the hospitality sector with the idea of responding to the needs of migrants by accompanying them in the difficult process of integration, supporting them in carrying out any training courses and job searches.
The cooperative reported to the AFP of Verzuolo the need to intervene with a certain urgency in taking care of migrants in order to provide them with basic linguistic training.
As regards basic skills, the offer is represented by Italian language courses while, for professional skills, the courses are mainly related to the mechanical sector and focused on welding. The AFP has started a discussion with the CPI of Saluzzo. From the shared analysis of the request, the opportunity emerged to involve all the subjects that make up the territorial network and the other training agencies based in the Saluzzo area. The skills learned and recognized by the training body will allow migrants to be attractive for the local job market, in particular to meet the demand for labor in the mechanical industrial sector, and so increasing the labour market integration of migrants.
Resources needed
The training courses - still ongoing - were financed through the resources of the regional tender for the implementation of GOL training measures (PNRR resources).
At the moment two trainers with previous experience in training immigrant people are assigned to provide two Italian language courses.
Evidence of success
The involvement of the territorial network made it possible to respond very quickly to the request for taking charge and training of migrants.
Inclusion in the courses financed by the GOL regional tender involves an administrative/bureaucratic process that also involves the CPI which, in a short time, took charge of the migrants to carry out the required profiling activities.
Overall, 22 migrants were involved in the two courses.
Potential for learning or transfer
The experience has allowed us to enhance a network of subjects who, regularly collaborating in different fields and in relation to their role, have given their contribution to promptly respond to a need expressed by the territory.
The experience has good transferability characteristics and has already been replicated at local level by another agency.
The success of the project can be traced back to the involvement of a network of local entities, where the Job Center plays a key central role. The experience is therefore also transferable at a European level as long as there are employment services in the identified area that offer placement services and that resources are available to support the linguistic and professional training of migrants.
