Climate Leadership Programme

About this good practice
The two-day training is designed to build up local climate leadership in the context of the territory. Participants are trained in climate science, climate neutrality and a frugal approach towards creating measures for this. Stakeholder engagement, SWOT analyze, sector energy analyzes, and media training are part of the program. In the first stage politicians and chief executives are trained and in the second stage a wider rollout in the whole municipality can take place which are creating a common ground for a more frugal approach for the organization and a more focused work on energy transition and climate neutrality.

Evidence of success
After participating in The Climate Leadership Programme (CLP) Överkalix Municipality have developed new goals for climate neutrality 2035 and also became a signatory of Covenant of Mayors in June 2024. Training evaluations show most participants found the format just right and that it had provided them with new tools in their everyday work for implementing climate neutrality, energy transition and a frugal approach.
Potential for learning or transfer
The model has successfully been transferred to other regions in Europe, for example through partners in REMARKABLE project and in collaboration with NetZeroCities for Hungarian mayors and other decision makers.
