Green infrastructure in Tudela

About this good practice
This action consists in the revitalization of the degraded area along the Ebro riverside, turning it into a "Tourist Green Corridor".
The city council of Tudela has transformed this space of more than one kilometer in length into a natural environment for leisure and activity, improving the mobility of the area and enhancing the value of the river.
Among the actions that have been undertaken, the canoe building, the bathrooms and the cafetería have been enlarged. A new playground of about 600 m2 has also been built, the existing fountain has been demolished and part of the access pavement has been modified. In addition, a new bicycle lane and a new promenade have been created along the Ebro corridor.
Finally, new irrigated gardens have been installed and the street lighting has been changed to LED.
Resources needed
The cost of the works is around 4 million euros.

Some of the results are the followings:
- Revitalization of a degraded area of the city.
- Better mobility along the riverside
- Sustainable urban environment
- Sense of belonging
Potential for learning or transfer
Most cities have lived with their backs to their rivers for decades, or even viewed them “as a nuisance”. In recent years this situation has been reversed and these areas are being valued for their environmental, landscaping and cohesion attractiveness. For this reason, many cities are transforming these spaces and the good practices of some of them can serve as an example for others, as is the case of the new green infrastructure of Tudel.
