Project summary
SafeSkills addresses the critical need for skilled labor in the safety and security sectors and emphasizes their significance as economic and innovation policy priorities in European regions. In light of today's complex global security environment and ongoing crises, regional development and innovation policies are increasingly focusing on safety, security and societal resilience. This includes sectors such as smart secure societies, industrial safety, environmental safety, cybersecurity, and safety-related research, education and training. Ensuring the availability of skilled labor is vital for enhancing security resilience, promoting economic growth, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and addressing emerging challenges in European regions, The project's innovative nature is highlighted by the EU's evolving safety and security direction and the complex security environment, which demand tailored and place-based regional policy responses to address current safety, security and resilience concerns and economic opportunities.
By identifying good practices and novel solutions through interregional exchange and learning, the project aims to help regional and local policymakers improve and create policy mechanisms that ensure the long-term availability of skilled labor in the safety and security sectors in European regions. Through expected policy improvements, SafeSkills enhances the ability of regional and local actors to anticipate labor needs and develop training courses accordingly. It also facilitates the creation of multidisciplinary cooperation concepts that advance skills development and education and training policy innovations in the fields of safety and security.
The SafeSkills partnership comprises strong and emerging safety and security clusters and regions across Europe. They understand the strong regional policy relevance of the safety and security domain and the potential of the EU's emerging safety and security direction at the regional level.
