SPARK–A new Interreg project for Smart Urban Mobility
A new ambitious european partnership is taking shape! Nine organizations from eight european countries are collaborating in the SPARK project – „Smart Planning for Agile Urban Mobility Solutions”, funded through the Interreg Europe Programme 2021–2027, to build smarter, more sustainable, and more climate-resilient urban policies.

The lead partner, Alba Iulia Municipality, will coordinate the process of experience exchange, development of innovative solutions, and the modernization of local mobility strategies in diverse European regions.
The first review of the project’s planned activities and expected outcomes took place during the Kick-Off Meeting, held online on May 5th, 2025.
Project objective
SPARK aims to improve public policies on urban mobility in the participating regions by:
- Promoting low-carbon mobility;
- Optimizing traffic flows using smart technologies;
- Supporting green public transportation and active mobility (walking, cycling, etc.);
- Adapting urban infrastructure for more resilient and healthier cities.
Through the exchange of best practices, policy analysis, and pilot testing of new local solutions, the project contributes to the objectives of the European Green Deal and the Paris Agreement.
Duration & budget
Total duration: 51 months (36 months implementation + 12 months follow-up + 3 months closure).
Total budget: €1,649,499.00
Expected impact
SPARK will contribute to:
- Modernizing sustainable urban mobility plans in the participating regions;
- Strengthening administrative capacity for coherent climate policies;
- Creating a shared European framework for sustainable urban development.
In the long term, the project will support a fair and smart transition toward cleaner, more connected, and more inclusive European cities, ready to meet the challenges of the future.
