New report explores the state of slow tourism across Europe
As part of the SLOWDOWN project, the University of Eastern Finland—our Advisory Partner—has published the report "SLOW TOURISM AND ITS GOOD PRACTICES: European State of Play". This comprehensive document offers an in-depth analysis of the current landscape of slow travel and tourism in Europe.
The report outlines the conceptual foundations of slow tourism, its historical roots in movements like Slow Food and Cittaslow, and the social, environmental and economic dimensions that define this alternative travel model. It also provides an extensive mapping of initiatives and good practices across Europe, from soft mobility and eco-accommodation to gastronomy and regional cooperation projects. In addition, it explores policy frameworks relevant to the development of sustainable tourism, offering useful insights for decision-makers and stakeholders.
The document aims to inspire and guide SLOWDOWN partners as they develop and improve regional policies to promote slow tourism as a sustainable driver of local development and well-being.
