Ion Neculce Commune Leads the Way with Green Solutions

Ion Neculce Commune, located 25 km from Iași, has become a model of success thanks to its strategic use of European funds. The commune’s remarkable focus on sustainability and energy efficiency has led to the development of several impactful projects, with one of the most notable being the construction of a photovoltaic park on an expansive area of 516,429 square meters.

The photovoltaic park was built with European Union funding through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program and serves as a solution to offset the rising electricity prices. The park generates renewable energy to meet the local community’s electricity needs, particularly for public lighting and public buildings, reducing the commune’s reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

In addition to this, the Ion Neculce Commune Hall stands out as one of the few in the country that has recently implemented a European-funded project to supply the institution with green energy. Launched in 2018 and approved under the 2014-2020 Regional Operational Program, this project involved significant thermal rehabilitation of the building. The roof and internal installations were refurbished, and photovoltaic panels were installed, now providing 80 percent of the building’s energy consumption.

Another innovative project currently under development is the construction of nearly zero-energy (nZEB) service housing for healthcare and education specialists. Funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, this initiative addresses the need for specialist housing to ensure that medical and teaching staff are available to support the local population at all times. This is a vital step in ensuring that the commune’s services remain efficient and accessible to residents.

In parallel, Ion Neculce Commune continues to implement key projects aimed at energy efficiency, road infrastructure modernization, and civic development. Furthermore, initiatives focused on improving healthcare services are underway, reflecting the commune’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
