Climate Dialogue in Blekinge: Smart Electrification
On May 8, 2025, stakeholders from municipalities, regional authorities, the energy sector, industry, and civil society gathered in Karlshamn for this year’s Climate Dialogue (Klimatsamtalet) in Blekinge. The central theme for the event was “Smart Electrification”.
Organized by the County Administrative Board of Blekinge in collaboration with Energikontor Syd (the Regional Energy Agency) and Karlshamn Municipality, the event is part of an annual initiative under Klimatsamverkan Blekinge—a regional partnership aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration around climate mitigation and adaptation.
Electrification for a Sustainable Future
This year’s discussions focused on how the region can implement smart electrification in a way that ensures reliable electricity supply, reduced costs, minimal environmental impact, and broad social acceptance. Key sectors discussed included:
-
Energy supply and production;
-
Transport and electric mobility;
-
Buildings and infrastructure;
-
Industrial processes.
Participants shared insights and strategies on how to accelerate the green transition through local and regional cooperation.
Mapping Electrification with SIreNERGY
A highlight of the event was a hands-on workshop connected to the EU project SIreNERGY. During this session, attendees explored a new electrification map of Blekinge, developed by Energikontor Syd. The map includes key infrastructure data such as:
-
Electrical grid networks;
-
Charging stations for electric vehicles;
-
Deployment of electric vehicles in the region;
The map serves as a decision-support tool to strengthen renewable energy planning in Blekinge. Those interested in accessing the tool are encouraged to contact Pierre Ståhl, Project Manager for Smart Energy Systems at Energikontor Syd.
A Milestone Toward Climate Goals
The 2025 Climate Dialogue marks a significant step in Blekinge’s climate journey, reinforcing the region’s commitment to sustainable electrification and collaborative climate action. Events like these highlight the importance of coordinated efforts between public institutions, businesses, and communities to reach Sweden’s ambitious climate and energy targets.
