Project summary
The SDGs Go project aims to enhance governance for implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within territorial development frameworks. In response to stalled progress on the SDGs since 2020, this project focuses on better integrating the SDGs into local governance and aligning them with national, EU, and international objectives.
SDGs Go involves seven territorial partners, supported by a research institute, covering four geographical zones of the Interreg Europe (IE) program. These regions include both more and less developed areas, exhibiting considerable variation in sustainability governance maturity. Nevertheless, all partners are committed to enhancing governance sustainability and setting an example for others.
In a context where local and regional authorities are at the forefront of climate action, the project aims to enhance exchanges, cooperation, cohesion, and the dissemination of good practices, fostering continuous improvement in sustainability and resilience. SDGs Go seeks to build the capacity of local authorities to manage SDG policies, making governance more inclusive, transparent, sustainable, and efficient. It addresses the diverse competencies and contexts of regional authorities through tailored multi-level governance deals and stakeholder engagement.
SDGs Go focuses on 4 main areas of intervention:
- Promoting alignment: Conducting baseline studies and self-assessments to integrate SDGs into policies.
- Fostering knowledges sharing: Encouraging collaborative learning and best practices.
- Strengthening capacities: Building robust governance structures for effective SDG implementation
- Engaging stakeholders: Tailoring tools and methods to each partner’s context.
SDGs Go emphasizes inclusive, transparent, and sustainable governance, fostering collaboration and trust among stakeholders. It aims to improve governance of territorial policies to support the SDGs, ensuring sustainable and inclusive development across European regions.
