The second stakeholder meeting was held in December in Andalusia. The meeting began with the presentation of news about the development of blue carbon project in Bahía de Cádiz natural park on the Guadalete river, which has been presented as a good practice at Interreg NACAO by Andalusia. The entities promoting the pilot shared with all participants the difficulties they have encountered in working on this initiative among the organizations due to their different profiles, needs and expectations for the project.

The Andalusian Climate Change Office (OACC) introduced the activities related to the project on which it has been working on in recent months. On the one hand, the Andalusian Blue Carbon Standard for certifying blue carbon credits and its methodology were validated by a verification external entity. In this process some opportunities for improvement were detected and implemented and a new version of the Standard was approved by resolution of de General Directorate of Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change.

On the other hand, as part of the public-private collaboration agreement, the OACC has launched a study about the quantity of carbon stored in the area where the pilot will be implemented, which will use as the starting point for the certification of the carbon credits (baseline) for offsetting emissions, carried out by University of Cádiz, as independient external expert organization.

The main conclusion derived from the baseline study is that this project is a nature based solution with a high carbon capture potential whose implementation only requires simple actions. These are very good news!
