Project Partner Fundão Shares Integration Strategy
At a peer review hosted by Interreg Europe in Kristiansand from 26th to 27th November 2024, European cities came together to explore solutions for labour market integration of immigrants, with a focus on Ukrainian refugees.
Representing project partner Municipality of Fundão (Portugal), Michaela Gil, senior technician, presented the region’s holistic approach to migrant integration—combining language training, cultural orientation, and strong local industry ties.
Key highlights from Fundão’s model include:
-
Industry-specific language courses (agriculture, IT, etc.)
-
Mentorship and job placement through the Fundão Migration Centre
-
The “Move to Fundão” programme promoting rural talent attraction
-
Recognition as a European Capital of Inclusion and Diversity (2023)
Gil also contributed to shaping policy recommendations, sharing best practices on entrepreneurship, qualification recognition, and community engagement, reinforcing Fundão’s role as a leading example in turning migration into opportunity.
