A meeting with regional stakeholders was held on 22 February in Pamplona (Spain) to discuss various aspects related to the INERTWASTE project. The nearly 30 participants exchanged on two main topics: reusing materials and revalorized waste in production processes and financial support to inert and/or inorganic waste valorisation projects.

  • Reusing materials and revalorized waste in production processes

Key guests of the meeting such as CONTENA (CDW manager), area of Public Works of the Government of Navarra, and MAGNA (industrial company in the mining sector) highlighted the potential for reusing materials and revalorized waste in production processes. However, concerns were raised about certain materials not meeting the criteria specified manuals and guidelines such as in the PG-3, despite their great potential for reuse, which results in reluctance to use them. The need for further research, testing, and updates of manuals and guidelines was emphasized.

  • Financial support to inert and/or inorganic waste valorisation projects

Information on grants and subsidies supporting projects for valorizing inert and/or inorganic waste was shared. Stakeholder provided feedback for improvement in future funding calls to better align with the needs of entities and private companies.

In addition, the regional meeting provided valuable insights and discussions on the progress of the INERTWASTE project during the first year, especially with the TLJ1 in Navarra, and gave an overview of the next steps. Several participants highlighted the synergies that the project has helped to emerge during its first year of implementation.
