Study visits
General information
Please note that study visit registration is closed.
Three optional study visits will be organised in the afternoon (14:00-17:00) during Europe, let's cooperate! on 15 March 2023.
The visits are an alternative to the other networking activities happening during the afternoon. If you would like to take part in a visit instead of networking and individual meetings during the afternoon, you can choose between three options:
- From an industrial site to a sustainable urban district – visit to Norra Djurgårdsstaden (Stockholm Royal Seaport)
- Dealing with climate-adaptation in dense urban areas – visit ‘the Stockholm solution’
- The story behind the leading ICT cluster in Europe – visit to KISTA Science City
Places are limited and separate registration is required. The registration for the study visits is now closed and participants who signed up have received a confirmation via email.
Please note that you can sign up for a study visit only if you have already registered and been approved for Europe, let's cooperate! and if you don't plan to participate in any other networking activities in the afternoon.
Overview of study visits

From an industrial site to a sustainable urban district: visit to Norra Djurgårdsstaden (Stockholm Royal Seaport)
The Stockholm Royal Seaport is a former industrial land currently under transformation into a green and vibrant neighbourhood. It is located 10-minute bicycle ride from the city centre, and it is Sweden’s largest urban development area, planning for at least 12,000 new homes and 35,000 workplaces. So far about 6,970 people have moved into 3,160 new homes.
The project embraces sustainable construction practices, biogas production from food waste, a robust recycling system and more. The Royal Seaport is the ideal testbed for Stockholm’s ambition to be fossil-free and climate-positive by 2040.
Please note that you will be spending time outdoors during the visit, as you will take a walking tour to see the site on the ground.
We organise the visit in collaboration with the City of Stockholm. You will be accompanied by:
- Staffan Lorentz, Head of Development Norra Djurgårdsstaden
- Raluca Toma, Communication Manager of the Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform

Dealing with climate-adaptation in dense urban areas – visit ‘the Stockholm solution’
The ‘Stockholm solution’ is a specific method for planting trees in urban and sub-urban areas. It is an integrated approach that provides trees with better growing conditions and has numerous positive side-effects like stormwater management, infrastructure integration and climate change adaption.
This method was initially successfully implemented in Stockholm and served as inspiration to other cities such as Graz – read the Austrian cities' experience with this good practice.
Please note that you will be spending time outdoors during the visit, as you will take a walking tour to see the site on the ground.
We organise the visit in collaboration with the City of Stockholm and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. We will stop by Sockenvägen, and then we will continue to Norra Djurgårdstaden.
During the study visit, you will be accompanied by:
- Britt-Marie Alvem, Örjan Stål and Petter Åkerblom – members of the team in charge of the Stockholm tree planting programme
- Magda Michaliková, Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform's Thematic Expert in environment and resource efficiency

The story behind the leading ICT cluster in Europe – visit to KISTA Science City
Kista Science City is built upon the Triple Helix Model – innovative collaboration between businesses, the public sector and academia.
The cluster is home to some of the world’s most famous ICT companies such as Ericsson and IBM, as well as a range of exciting startups and the leading universities of Stockholm. Kista is also an arena for future technology – Urban ICT Arena testbed is located here, where 5G and IoT technologies are being tested.
During the visit, you will be accompanied by:
- Marc Pattinson, Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform's Thematic Expert in research and innovation
Study visit participation is only for Europe, let's cooperate! attendees. You can only register for a study visit if you have already registered and been approved as a Europe, let's cooperate! participant.
Note also that study visits are an alternative to other networking activities. If you plan to book an individual meeting with the joint secretariat or network with other participants to discuss project ideas and other cooperation opportunities, you cannot sign up for a study visit.
