The idea comes from the contrast between "Green Cities of Europe", where getting around by bike or on public transport is done daily, and Cities where active mobility is minimal.
Thus, a network of universities and researchers intends to accompany cities, public transport and weak users in this transition: 1) We will estimate emissions, and enormous costs of car cities. 2) Factories and offices will disseminate the link to the survey on mobility: 4000-10,000 people will say about crowded trains and buses, and if they consider it dangerous… riding a bicycle!
3) What obstacles to active mobility? peer review on the critical issues of cycling and public transport 4) Action plan: widespread cycle paths, train-bus-bike integration, "Dutch-style" cyclostations, where commuters are transformed into an urban cyclists.
From year to year, Mobility Challenge Observers will signal the progressive reduction of "car only" commuting, demonstrating the very high profitability of modal rebalancing.
