The fourth newsletter of the Interreg Europe DETOCS project is now available in our library.

This edition highlights the successful 4th Interregional Exchange of Experience Event, held in October 2024 in Crete. Partners and stakeholders from eight regions gathered to share good practices, success stories, and innovative solutions for decarbonising the tourism sector. The event featured presentations, a Good Practices Open Forum, and inspiring study visits to sustainable tourism sites in Crete.

Key updates from the partner regions include:

  • Slovenia: The “One-Stop-Shop” model for renewable energy is inspiring replication in other regions.

  • Greece: Virtual meetings addressed regional energy challenges and supported development of DETOCS’ thematic guidebook.

  • Malta: Guesthouse energy audits identified as a Good Practice Example.

  • Finland: The South Ostrobothnia Tourism Forum showcases collaborative local sustainable tourism efforts.

  • Italy: Initiatives include a Carbon-Free business classification and support for Territorial Energy Communities.

  • Bulgaria: Stakeholders explored adapting energy-efficient practices from Crete to the Burgas region.

  • Hungary: Events highlighted the need for behavioural change and sustainability monitoring systems.

  • The Netherlands: A focus on energy-saving in heritage buildings and exploration of virtual tourism as a low-carbon solution.

The newsletter also previews two major upcoming outputs:

  • The Joint Thematic Guidebook, offering practical decarbonisation strategies tailored to diverse tourism contexts.

  • The DETOCS Good Practice Brochure, to be launched in August 2025, featuring best practices from all partner countries.

Next Event: The 5th Exchange of Experience will take place on 21–22 May 2025 in Campobasso, Italy.
