On March 14, 2025, the European Commission announced the preselection of 21 remarkable European sites for the prestigious 2025 European Heritage Label. This initiative, launched in 2011, celebrates locations that have played a pivotal role in shaping European history, culture, and the foundation of the European Union. These sites reflect the continent’s rich diversity and shared heritage, from archaeological treasures to cultural landmarks.

Each EU Member State participating in the programme nominated sites, which an independent expert panel will now evaluate. By the end of 2025, a maximum of one site per country will receive the coveted label, joining the 60 already recognised locations. The European Heritage Label honours these sites and aims to foster a stronger sense of European identity and boost cultural tourism.

The preselected sites span countries like Austria, Belgium, Croatia, and beyond, showcasing everything from ancient history to modern cultural achievements. Whether a historic monument or a groundbreaking institution, each location tells a unique story of Europe’s past and present. Stay tuned for the final announcement later this year to see which sites will earn this distinguished honour!
