3rd Stakeholder Meeting - Region of Murcia

On the 21st of November 2024, the Directorate-General for Natural Heritage and Climate Action hosted the third meeting of the Regional Stakeholders for the BIOWIND Project, a European initiative aimed at fostering the sustainable development of wind energy in participating regions.
The event featured remarks from the Deputy Director-General for Biodiversity, Protected Areas, and Climate Action, who highlighted the participants' commitment to promoting an energy transition that combines biodiversity conservation with public acceptance of wind energy through a community-based planning approach.
During the session, insights gained from interregional workshops held in Leuven (Belgium) and Kauhajoki (Finland) were shared, focusing on sustainable wind farm decommissioning and practical experiences with wind energy installations. Additionally, local good practices were presented, demonstrating how community-driven initiatives can positively contribute to the energy transition, with contributions from OTC COITIRM and UPCT.
One of the key highlights was the review of the 2021-2027 ERDF Program, aimed at integrating proposals that harmonize the energy transition with environmental protection. This joint effort seeks to strengthen regional energy policies and advance more inclusive and sustainable planning.
The BIOWIND Project, which involves collaboration among various local and Regional stakeholders, continues to prove its importance as a platform for sharing ideas and strategies to achieve a more balanced and environmentally respectful energy future.
