Improve public policies in favor of European volunteering
With the Interreg Yes volunteer project, the Seine-Saint-Denis Department brings together its local partners/stakeholders to improve public policies in favor of European volunteering
In Seine-Saint-Denis, one of the youngest departments in France (25% of the population is under 25), young people face many obstacles to go to Europe to study/work. However, all professionals note the positive effect of mobility/volunteering.
Creation of a local Yes volunteer group in Seine-Saint-Denis to share best practices
On July 4, the challenges and objectives of the project were presented to the network of 30 actors, led by the department, around the issues of mobility/volunteering / youth. The Polish Ministry of Youth, the French collective for European civic volunteering and the Seine-Saint-Denis County presented a volunteering experiment as part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
This work continued on October 18, in a small group to define the expectations of professionals and their participation in the project.
Youth professionals expect the project to help them remove obstacles to mobility
The Seine-Saint-Denis County shared the results of an analysis of a study regarding the impact of Europen founds in Seine-Saint-Denis:
- Seine-Saint-Denis has an important network of local NGO or local authorities to help youth to prepare for their mobility
- But, these NGOs and social centers are not equally located in the territory
- Youth with fewer opportunities need to be identified and to be prepared/help
- Students know mobility and volunteering opportunities. They only need financial and technical help
Youth professionals in cities or associations make the following observations:
- Young people are afraid to start mobility in Europe. Professionals try to develop projects to facilitate the first experience
- Professionals emphasize the interest of the Interreg project to give them tools on financing mobility, the impact on the professional integration of young people, and access to young people with fewer opportunities. They also emphasize the importance of preparation for departure
- Professionals must participate in mobility to be able to support young people
These first exchanges will feed the discussions in Genova and will prepare the participation of associations or cities in the next inter-regional meetings.
