Igualada boosts female talent through the WeSTEMEU project

Last Thursday, November 28th, La Teneria museum in Igualada hosted the 4th Local Meeting of the WeSTEMEU project, aimed at increasing women’s participation in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The event, which brought together local stakeholders, featured thought-provoking talks, collaborative sessions, and the presentation of new initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality in these fields.
The day began with a keynote presentation by Núria Salán, professor at the UPC, titled The (In)Visible Talent. Salán’s talk highlighted the challenges faced by women in STEM and the importance of recognizing and promoting their contributions to these sectors. The discussion emphasized breaking down barriers and fostering inclusion.
The meeting also included the presentation of Igualada TI(n)C Talent, a local initiative designed to improve technological skills across the region and provide equal access to digital careers. Additionally, participants engaged in the second phase of the Response Lab, a collaborative space aimed at addressing key challenges previously identified to improve gender balance in STEM.
Insights from the recent Study Visit to Ireland were another key focus. Attendees shared knowledge from their exposure to innovative European practices, which provided valuable perspectives and strategies to enhance local and international efforts in gender equality and diversity in STEM sectors. Igualada’s leadership in hosting this meeting reinforces its dedication to creating opportunities and driving progress in technology and science.
